Store Manager - Greater Boston Area

The Store Manager effectively leads, develops, and supports a best-in-class team to create inspiring and exceptional customer experiences, and help set the tone for the store team as they help customers discover and deepen their connection with Long’s throughout their visit and beyond.  This role is fully immersed in the development of the store’s talent and culture, with direct impact to the employee and customer experience.  Acting as a constant presence on the sales floor, you will foster and maintain a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment for both store teams and customers. 

Essential Job Functions / Core Responsibilities:

  • Focus on deepening the relationship with our customers to achieve positive sales results and to drive generational loyalty and spend. 
  • Champion and drive client development activity among individual team members to
    cultivate new and existing customers. 
  • Demonstrate leadership by playing an active role on the sales floor and managing
    client relationships personally.
  • Elevate the in-store experience through the creation of unique experiences and consistently delivering memorable moments. 
  • Accurately assess capabilities of team members and build individual growth plans to support on-going learning and development, including taking an active role in quarterly and annual performance appraisals. 
  • Network and recruit talent to build a pipeline of diverse and highly skilled candidates.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience leading teams in a luxury retail environment or related experience (e.g. hospitality).

  • Proven results-oriented track record in client development, meeting sales goals, and market penetration.

Watch Department Associate - Burlington, MA

The Watch Department Associate is an entry level position that provides support to the Watch Buyers, working closely with them to drive efficiencies within the department and to ultimately enhance the customer experience.  With a focus on administration, this role is key to ensure the smooth running of the office. If you have an eye for detail, an interest in learning about the world of luxury timepieces, and a desire to work for the fasted growing watch department in New England, this may be the position for you!

Essential Job Functions / Core Responsibilities:

  •  Administer and maintain the repair parts buying cycle, including the replenishment of watchmaker parts while keeping a keen eye on stock levels.
  • Lead the pre-owned repair lifecycle, as well as the RCPO life cycle, from receipt to stock. This includes creating the repair order, processing the repair in ASC and other internal systems, tracking the repair’s progress, packing, and shipping the repair back to the customer or entering for stock.
  • Coordinate and organize repair batches through partnership with watchmakers.
  • SKU and order creation in ASC, inclusive of RTV’s and special orders.
  • Assist the team with other special projects as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 2+ years of general business experience or prior experience working with luxury timepieces.
  • Intermediate Excel and spreadsheet skills, with a level of comfort creating spreadsheets and databases; high attention to detail.
  • Agile thinking and problem solver orientation.
  • Ability to work across teams and to handle multiple projects.
  • Desire and willingness to roll up your sleeves and jump in when the situation requires.

Fine Jewelry Estate Buyer - Boston and Burlington Locations

The Fine Jewelry Estate Buyer excels at understanding the potential market value of quality jewelry and timepieces.  This role will focus on one-on-one interactions customers who are interested in selling and/or trading in pre-owned jewelry, timepieces, and precious metals.  Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge in design, precious metals, gemstones, and timepieces, with a focus on relationship-based buying and selling.  Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited oversight. 

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage appointments and meet in-person with customers who are interested in selling their estate jewelry and period pieces.
  • Provide accurate market valuations and ensure the customer gains a good understanding of what is driving the valuation.
  • Negotiate a fair purchase price for both the customer and for Long’s.
  • Proactive follow up with customers as needed. 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years prior jewelry buying experience preferred.
  • Sound understanding of current market values for period pieces, with the ability to quickly assess values and authenticity.
  • Diamond and Colored Stones identification needed; GIA certified preferred; Additional certifications a plus.
  • Knowledge of precious metals and timepieces required.

Sr. Buyer, Fine Jewelry - Burlington, MA

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer, Fine Jewelry.  This role ensures that the most sought-after products are represented in-store and on-line, creating a best-in-class assortment unparalleled in the greater Boston market.

As the Senior Buyer you will work closely with the VP of Buying and Merchandise Strategy to leverage broad-based market knowledge to best support the evolution of Long’s brand and product categories.  You will be a resource for customer facing employees, assisting with procuring unique product requests, as well as with sharing your product knowledge to leverage all sales opportunities.  You will be empowered to drive results as you maximize sales and gross margin performance coupled with inventory management. Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge in fine jewelry and trends, with a focus on both cultivating new and nurturing existing vendor relationships.  Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited oversight. 

 How you will contribute:

  • Develop merchandise assortment and sourcing strategies to gain market share and drive revenue for the business.
  • Drive seasonal strategies and financial plans and proactively partner across channels to ensure success of individual sales and marketing campaigns.
  • Build and foster relationships with a portfolio of key vendors; negotiate with vendors in the interest of Long’s business goals and strategies.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend new products, vendors and concepts for the department; anticipate market trends and product leads through visiting Long’s stores on a monthly basis, as well as shopping the competition regularly to gain critical insight into customer preference and to identify product opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison to store teams to facilitate product and vendor education, including sourcing unique product needs for customers.
  • Partner with VP of Buying and Merchandise Strategy to develop and mentor fellow Buying team members.
  • Forecast and manage sales, margin, inventory receipt plans, and turn to inform current and future business opportunities.
  • Update weekly/monthly business summaries to report on status of business, including recommended responses to trend.

 What you need to be a success:

  • Minimum of 5+ years prior jewelry buying experience preferred.
  • Must be passionate and knowledgeable about diamonds and gemstones.
  • Proven experience managing numerous and diverse vendor relationships.
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring a team.
  • First-rate business acumen with a sound understanding of Microsoft Excel and other planning tools.
  • Flexibility and agility to quickly understand, assess and problem solve.

Master Jeweler - All Locations

We are seeking an experienced Master Jewelers who excel at understanding the design and craftsmanship of fine jewelry.  Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge in bench design, precious metals and gemstones, with a focus on custom jewelry and repairs.  Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited oversight. 

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Set stones in prong and bezel, including fancy cut stones. 
  • Re-tipping prongs.
  • Create stone mounts.
  • Perform channel and platinum rebuilds.
  • Perform minor ring repair and other jewelry repairs, including chain and clasp repairs.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work with all metals, including 14k, 18k, platinum and sterling silver.
  • Master level skillset with torch.  Prefer some laser experience.
  • Ability to complete 15 – 20 repairs daily, in addition to the shared maintenance and general upkeep of the shop.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment to arrive at the best outcome based on the information at hand.
  • Ability to interact with external and internal customers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Greet and welcome all customers in an authentic and professional manner. Manage incoming customer visits, especially during heightened business periods and monitor intake ability throughout the day.
• Inquire about the reason for a customer’s visit and follow through with the appropriate introduction to a sales or service professional. Offer hospitality and comfort should a customer need to wait for their designated sales professional.
• Converse and engage with customers as they wait to enter the boutique during peak business periods. Provide general information about the local area to customers visiting the area.
• Be knowledgeable of daily appointments, scheduled VIC visits, and other unique activities scheduled for the day.
• Keep the boutique environment clean and tidy throughout the day, including loading and unloading the dishwasher, restocking beverage station, polishing glass cases, etc…
• Act a second pair of eyes and ears when it comes to monitoring inside and outside the premises for any type of unusual activity which might be a security risk. Partner with security regarding these situations.
• Assists with the answering of overflow phone calls.

Watchmaker - Burlington, MA

Due to growth, Long’s Jewelers is seeking an experienced watchmaker to support our thriving luxury timepiece business.  This role demands advanced technical expertise, including brand, model, movement, and material identification. The ideal candidate will embody a passion for watches backed by expert knowledge of watch service and repair.  This role is based in our Burlington, MA corporate office. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Determine brand authenticity and condition, both external and functional performance, of timepieces.
  • Accurately diagnose and perform quality service and repair of basic to moderate complexity on customer-owned merchandise, with the aim of improving overall condition, function, and timing accuracy on both quartz and mechanical watches.
  • Identify and requisition parts for repairs.
  • Handle all necessary documentation and recordkeeping of service and repairs according to Long’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient workspace and ensure proper use and maintenance of work tools.
  • Communicate proactively with department leaders with regards to progress on various projects and overall scope of pending work.
  • Participate in trainings, audits, and meetings as required, including travel when applicable.
  • Assist other watchmakers to authenticate and resolve complex repairs.

Qualifications:

  • 3 – 5 years + Advanced technical watchmaking expertise, including brand, model, movement, and material identification.
  • Familiar with both Swiss and Japanese movements.
  • Demonstrated experience in repairing and servicing luxury watches, with skills including but not limited to: quartz/mechanical movements, chronographs, perpetual calendars, and lathe work.
  • Proficient with case disassembly/reassembly of quartz, mechanical, and chronograph watches.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple service projects at the same time. Prioritization is key.
  • Must possess excellent hand and eye coordination, and the ability to perform fine motor skills.
  • Extremely accurate vision, natural or corrected.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and anticipate organizational needs, including the ability to meet deadlines and successfully complete projects.
