5 Tips for Choosing Jewelry For Your Wedding Day

Planning a wedding can definitely be stressful, but picking your wedding day jewelry shouldn't be! Or at least with our help, it doesn't have to be. Wedding jewelry is such an important aspect of your overall look so choosing the right style can either be super fun or a little overwhelming. It all just depends on how you look at it-but that's why we're here to help! If your reaction is leaning towards the latter, then preparation is key for getting those stress levels down.

The goal of wedding day jewelry is to enhance and complement everything else, meaning your natural beauty, your makeup, your gown, your hair etc. How these things are styled with your jewelry is where we come in. If you're not sure where to get started, you have come to the right place. Below are 5 tips on how to style jewelry for your wedding day look.

1. Keep it Simple5 Tips for Choosing Jewelry For Your Wedding Day

It's easy to get caught up in the glamour and excitement of it all, but it's important to not overdo it! When it comes to styling your wedding jewelry, sometimes less is more. In order to keep it simple on your big day, try to narrow down your favorites to one or two pieces to avoid looking too overdone. In the photo above, we opted for some simple diamond studs and a stunning diamond tennis bracelet to match. Both of these pieces are beautiful yet understated so they enhance your look without being too distracting. Remember, you want all eyes on you for your special day, not your flashy accessories.

2. Match Metals to Your Dress

Not sure which metal to choose? Chances are, if you are stuck between yellow gold, white gold, platinum or rose gold, it is best to pick the metal with hues similar to the hue of your dress. You might be thinking, "aren't all bridal gowns white?" and you wouldn't be alone. But no, bridal gowns come in many different shades and subtle hues, such as ivory and beige, which would go best with yellow gold jewelry, bright white which would work best with platinum or white gold, and rosy shades like the the dress featured above which styles best with-you guessed it-rose gold jewelry.

3. Know Your Neckline

For some bridal dresses, the neckline is the most important thing to consider when choosing your accessories. There are so many different styles of necklines, all with their own set of rules and jewelry combinations. Whether you choose earrings, bracelets, or a necklace, it must complement your dress neckline and coordinate with the flow of your overall look. Some popular necklines that come to mind are strapless, sweetheart, halter, straight, and v-neck, like the one shown above.

A diamond drop necklace works beautifully with a v-neck design because both are flowing in the same direction, sharing similar shapes on the neck. Depending on how much space your neckline is taking up, you will want to coordinate this with your necklace if you choose to wear one. Instances where a necklace may not be the best option would be if the neckline is high near your neck or possibly a halter, which doesn't leave much space for anything else. With high necklines that take up too much space for a necklace, you can opt for drop earrings instead, for some extra glitz.

4. Avoid Clashing Colors5 Tips for Choosing Jewelry For Your Wedding Day

Multi-colored jewelry can look too busy and will distract attention from the bride. This is why opting for gemstones that match in some way is paramount to a well put-together wedding day look. Always keep the color of the dress in mind by picking one or two colored gemstones that highlight and flow with your dress and your style. Since the dress in the photo above is tinted with a rosy pink hue, a pair of morganite drop earrings are the perfect addition to this glowing bride's final look.

5. Stick to Your Style

On a big day like your wedding, it is so important that you be yourself. Jewelry should enhance your natural beauty - not mask it - by adding sparkle and a little glamour to your everyday look. Let your best self shine through and when it comes to your accessories, it's best to go with what you know and love. Whether your style is classic, bohemian, romantic, modern, vintage, or minimalist, you name it- stick with it. When you look back at your wedding photos and remember all of the amazing memories you're going to create, you will be so glad you did.
