When it comes time to pop the question, you want the moment to be perfect. You can spend hours planning every last detail so that it goes exactly as planned. From where the proposal will take place, to where you will hide the ring, there is so much to think about!

But, the reality of it is, sometimes proposals have a few hiccups. There are a few things that can be done in the planning phase to try to avoid disaster, but some things will just come up in the moment. It's important that you understand that things might not go your way, but you can still have an unforgettable experience. And, a funny moment may make for a great story later on!

Here are five proposals gone wrong that we found along with some insight on what we can all learn from each experience:

1. The Proposal With A Splash

What happened? The man in this video thought of a very romantic idea...proposing near the water. The setting was perfect with the waves crashing down on the nearby rocks. But, as you can see in this video, they got just a little bit too close to those waves.

What can we learn? It's important to consider everything that could happen during the proposal. While this idea was romantic, what isn't romantic is losing the ring that he just spent thousands of dollars on in the ocean. Be cautious when you are near a location that could result in a disaster like this one.

2. The Almost Perfect Proposal

What happened? This man is ready to propose to his girlfriend. The idea was that he would be kneeling with the ring as she goes to rip the newspaper out of the window in her store. But, she's just a bit too involved with the ripping and doesn't notice him right away.

What can we learn? You have to be able to roll with the punches during a proposal. Things don't always go our way, but as long as you have a sense of humor about it, it'll still be a perfect proposal. The man in this video handles this perfectly even if he was slightly embarrassed at first.

3. The Balloon Proposal

What happened? This sweet man has the idea to tie the engagement ring on a balloon to give to his sweetheart as he proposes. Unfortunately, she gets caught up in the moment, one thing leads to another and the engagement ring is now a gift to someone in a foreign land.

What can we learn? It's important to think long and hard about where you will hide the engagement ring. And while you are doing that, you should also be thinking about the object or container you may hide it in. There are instances where things can go terribly wrong, like in this video. Engagement rings are big investments, and it's not worth loosing the ring by not being safe with its container.

4. The Absent Proposal

What happened? When this man went to propose to his girlfriend at church, it turns out she wasn't there! She had forgotten to set her alarm and slept through church that morning.

What can we learn? First, there is the obvious suggestion to make sure everyone is present that is involved with the proposal. Second is the reinforcement that humor is often the best way to handle missteps when it comes to the proposal. If things don't go your way, laugh it off and figure out how you can still make the proposal memorable.

5. The Food Court Proposal

What happened? It may not have been the most ideal setting, in a food court, but this man had the idea to propose to his sweetheart in a public place. He even hired a guitar player to follow him around as he did it. But her reaction takes a turn for the worse...

What can we learn? While the idea to propose in a public setting can seem romantic, there are obvious risks involved. Think about what she really wants in the proposal and what makes sense for her. Maybe proposing in public will overwhelm her or embarrass her unknowingly. If you aren't totally sure, stick to a private proposal, and you can announce the engagement publicly afterwards.
