Boston is an amazing city filled with history, sports, museums, science...and romance! With careful planning and the right location, you can find a perfect spot to propose in the city and create your own special moment of romance.

Whether it's a snowy walk through along the harbor, ice skating at the Frog Pond, or snuggling up on horse and carriage, Boston is full of proposal potential.

Forget the clique visit to the Top of the Hub or Boston Common. Check out these 10 more unique locations to propose in the city:

1. Castle Island

Castle Island in South Boston is a great place to go if you are looking to propose near the water. The island, and the surrounding area, has lots of space to walk around and sit near the ocean, and it is the home of Fort Independence. Spend the day learning about the history of the Fort, have a picnic, and stay for the sunset. Pleasure Bay is also right next door, which is one of Boston's most popular beaches. This is a perfect location if you and your loved one like to spend your free time outdoors.

2. Franklin Park Zoo

Something truly unique for an animal-loving girlfriend is a visit to the zoo before popping the question. You can find over 200 species of animals, including giraffes, lions, and hippos at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. Go on your own mini safari throughout the park and decide on which exhibit might make the perfect backdrop to your proposal.

3. The North End Park

Proposing in the Boston Common is a good idea, but an idea that is wildly overused. To go for something a little more unique, consider the North End Park. It's perfectly located near all of the North End restaurants, which would make for a perfect before or after stop. It's also not very crowded when the sun starts to set if you'd prefer more of an intimate setting.

4. On Horse and Carriage

Take a romantic stroll through downtown Boston on horse and carriage. They are very easy to find around Faneuil Hall Marketplace and can take you on trips ranging from 15 minutes to an hour. Cuddle up to your significant other while you slowly trot through Boston, and pop the question whenever you feel the time is right!

5. The Harborwalk

Walk along the water and gaze out at all of the boats on the Boston Harbor by following the path of the Harborwalk. The Harborwalk is a winding walkway that stretches throughout the city's waterfront neighborhoods and downtown district. You can really get some great picturesque views of the city and can even stop along the way to visit the Aquarium and many downtown restaurants. Watch the sunset while sitting on one of the many benches, and you're sure to feel the romance of the city.

6. The Frog Pond

Located in the heart of Boston Common, the Frog Pond is a great place for a playful ice skating date before you pop the question. Ice skating begins at the Frog Pond in mid-November and usually ends in March, depending on the weather. If you don't mind being in a slightly crowded location in public when you ask the question, this spot is a great option during the colder months. Afterwards, you can find a nearby cafe to have some hot chocolate to warm up and celebrate.

7. The Gilliland Observatory at the Museum of Science

On the top of the Museum of Science you can find the Gilliland Observatory. It's open on Friday evenings and is even free to the public. Make the moment romantic by gazing up at the stars and looking out at the city of Boston. At 7pm, there is also a showing of The Sky Tonight in the Planetarium that acts as a background to your star gazing.

8. Swan Boats

The Swan Boats, located in the Boston Public Garden, are really a Boston staple. They've been around for over 130 years and are truly unique to the city. The boats run from late April to late September and will only cost you $6 total. These boats can be a perfect way for you to break away from the crowds in the Garden and spend some alone time in a more romantic setting.

9. Gondola on the Charles River

The Charles River is already a very romantic location with it's picturesque views of the city and luscious green grass areas. But, to increase the romance, why not rent a gondola to cruise the Charles? Gondola Di Venezia is a company that takes the classic idea of the gondola from Venice and brings it to Boston. Sit back, relax, sip some champagne or wine and pop the question when the time is right.

10. The New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium is full of cute creatures that make for a fun atmosphere to propose. If you really want to go over the top, the aquarium even offers the unique opportunity to send a diver in a swimming tank to hold up a proposal sign.
