Why Boston Is Actually A Pretty Amazing Place To Tie The Knot

The other day I stumbled upon an article called, "2016's Best and Worst Cities to Get Married." It was a study conducted by WalletHub to compare US cities against one another on a variety of different wedding-related factors. I scrolled through the list and was shocked to see that Boston ranked so low. 141 out of 150, yikes!

I started thinking - what would make Boston rank so low on this list? Sure, California is beautiful, sunny and people may be more laid back. But Boston has a certain uniqueness, charm and history that makes it stand out against other US cities. Boston is full of interesting places and sites, and its proximity to water makes for some stunning views.

Long's has been Boston's most loved jeweler for over 135 years, and I think it's time we defend our city as one of the most amazing places to tie the knot. So, here are our five reasons that Boston should actually be ranked as one of the best cities to get married:

1) The weather isn't a disadvantage! Fall foliage, anyone?

In WalletHub's weather score, Boston ranked pretty low.Ok - so don't exactly have the most tropical or consistent weather, especially when we're up against California (Winter 2015, enough said). However, we have two seasons that are unparalleled - our spring and fall seasons.

While the winter months may be tough because of the inconsistent amount of snow, Boston has some of the most beautiful weather in the entire country during the spring through fall months. Boston's spring season is comfortable and sunny without being too hot. And who can argue that New England's fall season isn't perfect? The combination of the comfortable weather, the smell of fresh leaves falling and the radiant colors of bright red, orange and yellow across the trees. Not to mention, fall means we get pumpkins, apple cider and the warm crackle of the fireplace. It's the perfect setting for a Boston themed wedding.

2) Boston has many non-traditional venues that create a unique experience

Sure, you can find a unique venue in any city, but Boston has some venues that are one-of-a-kind spaces that would have your guests talking for years to come. Boston's local history and charm make it the perfect destination for a non-traditional wedding. Here are some of our favorite wedding venues that are outside the box:

3) Boston makes for the perfect wedding weekend that'll keep your guests entertained

I was talking to a friend recently about a wedding she went to in Boston, and she kept saying that it was the best wedding she had ever been to. I was intrigued so I asked what made it so amazing. Her response was that Boston was the perfect place for her immediate family to spend some quality time together. They spent a long weekend in the city and visited Fenway Park, went to the Prudential Center and walked down Newbury Street. Not to mention, she said they stopped at the Top of the Hub and had a few drinks while overlooking Boston from every angle.

After living here so long, I forgot how incredible Boston is for new visitors. There is so much rich history in our city and a lot of events and local happenings. No matter what your family likes to do, they will have a blast in the city for the weekend. Do they love history? Visit the Freedom Trail. Are they a foodie? Go on one of the many walking food tours or visit the North End for some incredible Italian food. Do they love museums? Then they'll love the Museum of Fine Arts.

4) Boston's many suburbs have amazing venues that won't break the bank

I'll be the first to admit that downtown Boston can be quite pricey when it comes to weddings. Many of Boston's top venues are heavily in-demand, so hotels and popular venues can charge top dollar for rentals. However, Boston's many suburbs have some of the most incredible wedding venues at just a fraction of the cost.

Because of Boston's proximity to the water, there are stunning places within miles of downtown Boston that make for perfect coastal wedding locations. For example, right outside the city you can rent an oceanview venue and get married on the beaches of Nahant. The Oceanview of Nahant is simply stunning and can be achieved at a much more reasonable price for a Boston wedding.

If you want something a little more rustic, look no further than one of the top wedding venues in the entire country - The Barn at Gibbit Hill. Just under an hour outside of Boston, this charming venue has stunning fields with an elegant and rustic barn to hold the reception.

These are just two incredible venues that the suburbs of Boston have to offer. While downtown Boston may be unattainable to some, many of the stunning selections nearby would make any couple happy.

5) Boston's airport is right in the city and the subway system will allow guests to easily travel around

Most weddings require some family to travel from out of state, and a lot of times they require some cross country flying. Boston has a huge advantage, because the airport is very centrally located. From Logan Airport, you can get to any destination downtown in under 30 minutes, much less if you are going close by. And our subway system, called the T, can get you anywhere you need to go downtown very quickly. The T is very easy to use, and many friendly Bostonians can help family members navigate their way around town if they have any questions. It's very easy to get from point A to point B in Boston, making it the perfect spot to have a wedding with relatives from all over the country (or world)!
