Elsa Peretti was born in Florence, Italy in 1940. In 1968, Peretti moved to New York City pursue a modeling career. The photo ‘Elsa Peretti in Bunny Costume’ by Helmut Newton is still an iconic image of the 70’s. While modeling, Peretti began to create jewelry for some of the fashion designers with whom she was working. By the time she joined Tiffany & Co. in 1974, she had already received a Coty American Fashion Critics' Award, had her first appearance in Vogue, and had her own dedicated boutique at Bloomingdale’s. With Tiffany’s, her organic, sensual forms revolutionized jewelry design and seduced the world. She took everyday forms such as the bean, apple and snake, and transformed them in intriguing and beautiful new ways. Some of her most iconic designs include Diamonds by the Yard, the Bone Cuff and the Open Heart. Here we have not only an 18k yellow gold open heart pendant, but also a sterling silver open bottle pendant, 18k yellow gold teardrop earrings, 18k yellow gold bean earrings, and a delicate platinum band set with a full cut diamond (size 6).

French jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger (1907-1987), began his career in design creating buttons and costume jewelry for Elsa Schiaparelli. After fighting in World War II, he moved to New York where he designed clothing before opening his own jewelry salon in 1946. He began designing jewelry for Tiffany & Co. in 1956, and his nature-inspired designs were quickly embraced by the world’s most fashionable women including Elizabeth Taylor, legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and Babe Paley. Jackie Kennedy was also a huge fan, and wore so many of his bracelets the press named them “Jackie bracelets.” His most famous design was the mounting of the famous Tiffany Yellow Diamond on a brooch entitled “Bird on a Rock.” Schlumberger had his own workshop at Tiffany’s until his retirement in 1970. Currently in our collection, we have a pair of 18k yellow gold cuff links designed by Schlumberger as well as an 18k yellow gold and platinum ring set with 11 full cut diamonds.

Daughter of the famed Pablo Picasso, it’s no surprise Paloma Picasso also found acclaim as an artist. Her jewelry career began in 1968 as a Parisian costume designer. Some of her rhinestone necklaces drew the attention of critics, and, encouraged by the positive feedback, she pursued formal training in jewelry design. A year later, Picasso presented her first efforts to her friend, Yves Saint Laurent, who immediately commissioned her to design accessories to accompany one of his collections. In 1980, Picasso began designing jewelry for Tiffany & Co. Picasso’s jewelry is celebrated for it’s a boldly original style defined by brilliant colored gemstones. A great example of this are her sugar stack rings currently in our collection. The first is 18k yellow gold set with an amethyst (7.5) and the second is 18k yellow gold set with a carnelian (7.5).

Some of his most famous buildings include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. In 2003, Gehry established a partnership with Tiffany & Co. to create an exclusive jewelry collection that launched in 2006. Rooted in his understanding of materials and structure, the collection explores the expressiveness of precious metals, wood and stone. Gehry’s jewelry exudes the spontaneous twists and turns style found in the architect’s innovative buildings. Here we are have an 18k white gold pair of earrings and pendant from his Axis collection.
