This iconic city is home to some of the Northeast's greatest monuments and attractions. These historic Boston landmarks have been pivotal in the shaping of American history and are perfect for creating your own piece of history as you plan out where you would like to propose in the area.

My favorite thing about these spots is that there are a multitude of ways for you to pull off the proposal at each spot. Don't be just another Harbor cruise or romantic restaurant proposal - pop the question on the beaches of Little Brewster Island, exploring the decks of the U.S.S. Constitution, or traveling back in time at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.

See how you can make your Boston proposal one for the history books at one of these stunning, unique spots:

1) Boston Light

Little Brewester Island Boston Light Historic Proposal

Take a ferry ride out of Boston Harbor to Little Brewster Island, home of Boston Light. First lit on September 14th, 1716, Boston Light is the oldest light house in the country.

Soak in the sunshine, smell the salty ocean air, and find the perfect spot to pop the question. If you want to make a day of it, take advantage of the 3 hour Boston Light Climbing Tour which offers a boat cruise, a park ranger guide, and gives you a chance to climb to the top of Boston Light's tower. The breathtaking view of Boston Harbor will make the unforgettable night even more memorable.

2) U.S.S. Constitution

U.S.S. Constitution Boston Harbor Historic Proposal

As one of the most unique symbols of America's fight for freedom, this magnificent warship would make the perfect proposal location for any history lover. The U.S.S. Constitution was permanently moored in Boston Harbor as a reminder of its vital role in the War of 1812.

Walk through the various decks and travel back in time through vivid guided tours provided by active navy sailors. If you're planning a proposal this year, you have the rare opportunity to see the gorgeous vessel out of water. Admire the structure of the ship in its full glory while she is undergoing her first ever restoration. Just as this ship is an iconic part of Boston's History, your proposal will be iconic to you and your significant other.

3) Boston Common / Public Garden

Boston Common Historic Proposal

Located in the heart of Boston lies our country's oldest park, Boston Common. While the park's present-day popularity and picturesque atmosphere may make the location's historical value less evident, it is filled with reminders perfect for any history-loving couple.Regardless of the season, the proposal opportunities are endless within this beautiful 50 acre park. Whether you imagine your proposal as a nice spring picnic by the water, a summer ride in the swan boats, admiring the stunning fall foliage, or skating on the Frog Pond this winter; the Common has it all. If you and your S.O. are total dog lovers, this location has the added benefit of being the ideal place to include your four-legged friend in the proposal festivities.

Adjacent to Boston Common you'll find the Nation's first public botanical garden. Let the rest of the world fade away surrounded by the garden's beautiful flowers and plants. Walking distance from Boston's Back Bay area - the Public Garden is perfect for a romantic walk before (or after) hitting your favorite dinner spot. Don't be another one of the many dinner proposals in Boston - have the historic moment somewhere that has been at the center stage of American history for centuries.

4) Bunker Hill Monument

If you and your S.O. love history and being active together, this is the proposal spot for you!

5) Boston Public Library

Explore the various rooms and exhibits the library has to offer, but it's hard to compete with Bates Hall Reading Room (see above). In addition to the beautiful architecture and lighting, this room is one of the most historically significant of the entire landmark. Get creative and surprise her by hiding the ring in her favorite book!

Built in 1760s, Fanueil Hall has since become an iconic market building and meeting house. This lively market place in between Boston's Financial District and North End area was once the site of many public meetings during the American Revolution. Its many shops and restaurants make the marketplace a popular destination for both visitors and residents of the city. Learn more about the history with a tour, or just spend time enjoying the attractions. The beautiful tree light show make this the perfect night-time proposal location during the holiday season.
