So you just got engaged-in the middle of a pandemic...now what? You may be feeling a little helpless right now as to how you’re supposed to plan anything with what’s going on. This is a challenge many brides are facing and it is understandable, but just know that you aren’t alone! There are plenty of things you can do to get ready for your wedding during quarantine. Endless free time does have its perks. So sit back, relax, and read our newly engaged to-do list as you lounge in your pajamas and sip on your sleepy time tea.

Have a Heart to Heart with your Partner

You’re new to being engaged which means nothing is booked yet or set in stone. So take this time to sit down with your partner and go over what each of you envision for your wedding. This is a good time to go over your goals, expectations, and visions together so that you are both on the same page. Together you can decide on the broad things such as the wedding style, general location, size, budget etc. Once you have sorted out an idea of what you both want, you can really start in on the planning process with a realistic timeline.

Make a General Guest List

When deciding on a lot of things such as the venue, the meals, the seating, it is important to know what your guest list is going to look like and more specifically, how big it will be. It is important to make sure you and your partner are on the same page about how big you want your wedding to be, especially when wedding venue sizes are being cut down so much due to the pandemic. One or both of you may have had a bigger wedding size in mind, but that will most likely need to be compromised. You will need this guest list before you search for venues so you know whether or not the venue of your dreams can accommodate your size!

Research!

There’s a lot that goes into planning a wedding, so it definitely helps to be prepared. This is why you need to research, research, research! Take all this down time that you have in quarantine to look up and create a long list of wedding venues, suppliers, vendors, etc. to choose from down the line. Make a Pinterest board of everything you envision - from the type of venue you dream about, any dress styles that catch your eye, and of course...wedding rings. Take Virtual Venue Tours

Once you start researching vendors, you will want to start going to see these places in person eventually. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic this might be difficult to do right now, so virtual vendor tours are a great alternative! Having the ability to talk one on one to your planners/venue coordinators, even if it is virtual, can be super helpful in eliminating any miscommunication about what you want. This is also a great way for you to get a good look at each venue and ask any questions that may come up without having to be there in person.

Pick a Date

This is such an important step of the wedding planning process. This is the date that you and your partner will pick to say your I-do’s and celebrate for years to come. Once you have done your research and narrowed down a venue/location this step should be easier to nail down. Usually most couples have an idea of when this day should be and once there’s a venue picked out, depending on their availability, you can work with them to get this step out of the way.

Brush Up on Legalities and Customary Traditions

You may be a seasoned pro or the world of weddings may be entirely new to you-either way it is good to know the legalities of getting married and familiarize yourself with specific customs that you will need to know when you tie the knot. This means looking into procuring a marriage certificate, learning the ins and the outs of wedding etiquette and if you are getting married outside your home state or even outside of the country, you should know what is customary for getting married there, wherever “there” may be.

Wherever you are in your planning now, remember that you are not alone and that you are doing great. This is a challenging time for many, with weddings being postponed or rearranged in some way, shape or form so go easy on yourself as you navigate this process. And don’t forget to make the most of it! This should be a happy and exciting time for you and your partner, even with everything going on in the world right now. So if you are ever feeling overwhelmed with the wedding planning process, remember take a minute to remember why you’re doing this-to celebrate love. Once you do that, everything else will fall into place.
