In November 2008, Long’s Jewelers was honored to create the Cheverus Medal presented to 67 people honored for their service to the Church at the Arch Diocese of Boston’s bicentennial.
The sterling silver medal created by Long’s Jewelers is oval-shaped, bearing a likeness of Bishop Cheverus, the city’s first bishop, who led the diocese from 1808 until his return to France in 1824. The image on the front of the medal is based on Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of the Bishop. The reverse side bears the bishop’s coat of arms.
