About the Zakim Bridge Pin

At Long’s Jewelers, we carry a variety of Boston-themed gifts in our giftware department. Among our Boston themed gifts is the Zakim Bridge Pin. This pin represents the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge which is named after both the civil rights activist Leonard P. Zakim as well as the American colonists who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Leonard P. Zakim was a civil rights activist who worked to build personal bridges within the city of Boston. He encouraged the diverse group of Boston residents to be respectful of each other despite cultural, racial, or religious differences.

The Battle of Bunker Hill for which the bridge is also named was a battle that took place early in the American Revolutionary War. Naming the bridge after this battle honors the colonists who fought for America’s independence so long ago.

Serving as the northern entrance and exit to the city of Boston, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge is the widest cable-stayed bridge in the world.
