Long’s and David Yurman recently held a charitable event, Cable for a Cause, in our Peabody store. A portion of the proceeds from all David Yurman sales made on the day of the event were donated to Special Olympics of MA. The mission of Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of well-coached Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Massachusetts also provides athletes with continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, express courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics Athletes, and the community.
We had the great pleasure of welcoming some of the athletes in our Peabody store. It was great to get a chance to meet some of the athletes and learn about their passion for the sports in which they participate. In just a few weeks, the SOMA 2012 Winter Games will take place. On March 10–11, 2012, the Winter Games will be held in the Greater Worcester area. Athletes will come to compete in any number of sports including, Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Bowling and Floor Hockey. Other winter sports include Nordic Skiing, Figure and Speed Skating and athletes have the opportunity to travel to the Connecticut Winter Games to compete in those sports.
Good luck to all of the athletes in the upcoming events!
