Would you take the leap?

Today is February 29, also known as Leap Day, which happens but once every four years during a Leap Year. Legend has it that years ago, long before the women’s rights movement, a tradition was set that a woman may propose marriage to a man only on Leap Day. This tradition supposedly began when Saint Brigid suggested the idea to St. Patrick so to bring a balance of traditional roles of men and women.

Fast forward to present day, if a woman decides that she wants to pop the question, it is unlikely she will wait for Leap Day to come around. While it is not yet as common for woman to ask a man for his hand in marriage as opposed to the other way around, stories of women proposing to men are heard about much more often. Actress and singer Jennifer Hudson proposed to her boyfriend David Otunga on his birthday, and he said yes!
