How We Buy Diamonds
Although lab reports cannot fully describe the beauty of a diamond, they are very helpful tools that objectively measure a diamond’s statistics such as color, weight, measurements and proportion.
Long’s accepts certificates from several organizations including the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the American Gem Society (AGS) and others. GIA and AGS have the strictest standards of grading while other labs have more relaxed standards, so your jeweler should be able to help you compare diamonds on an “apples to apples” basis.
Long’s believes in carrying only conflict-free diamonds. In 2000, the World Diamond Council was formed to end the trade of conflict diamonds and created a strict policy known as the Kimberley Process. Now more than 99% of the world’s diamonds are from conflict-free sources. Long’s Jewelers supports the Kimberley Process and only sources diamonds from suppliers who have provided assurance that the source of their diamonds are free from conflict.
